# Install the Synth CLI

> Install the release used by these guides, including its bundled helpers.

These guides use **0.0.1-alpha.62**. Install the complete release bundle, not just the `synth` executable: backup and related commands also need its helpers.

<Note>
  The macOS alpha is unsigned and not notarized. Your device must permit unsigned software. Do not disable your organization's security controls to run it.
</Note>

## Download the matching bundle

Choose your operating system and CPU. Apple silicon uses ARM64; Intel Macs use AMD64. The published release contains these four builds:

| Platform | Bundle |
| - | - |
| macOS, Apple silicon | [Darwin ARM64](https://github.com/SynthLabsAI/synth-releases/releases/download/v0.0.1-alpha.62/synth_0.0.1-alpha.62_darwin_arm64.tar.gz) |
| macOS, Intel | [Darwin AMD64](https://github.com/SynthLabsAI/synth-releases/releases/download/v0.0.1-alpha.62/synth_0.0.1-alpha.62_darwin_amd64.tar.gz) |
| Linux, ARM64 | [Linux ARM64](https://github.com/SynthLabsAI/synth-releases/releases/download/v0.0.1-alpha.62/synth_0.0.1-alpha.62_linux_arm64.tar.gz) |
| Linux, Intel/AMD | [Linux AMD64](https://github.com/SynthLabsAI/synth-releases/releases/download/v0.0.1-alpha.62/synth_0.0.1-alpha.62_linux_amd64.tar.gz) |

Download [checksums.txt](https://github.com/SynthLabsAI/synth-releases/releases/download/v0.0.1-alpha.62/checksums.txt) into the same new directory as the archive. Keep each release's files together.

## Verify and install

Open a terminal in that directory. Set `ARCHIVE` to the exact filename you downloaded. This example is for Apple silicon:

```bash theme={null}
ARCHIVE=synth_0.0.1-alpha.62_darwin_arm64.tar.gz
```

Verify the matching checksum before extracting anything:

<Tabs>
  <Tab title="macOS">
    ```bash theme={null}
    awk -v asset="$ARCHIVE" '$2 == asset { print }' checksums.txt > asset.checksum
    test -s asset.checksum && shasum -a 256 --check asset.checksum
    ```
  </Tab>

  <Tab title="Linux">
    ```bash theme={null}
    awk -v asset="$ARCHIVE" '$2 == asset { print }' checksums.txt > asset.checksum
    test -s asset.checksum && sha256sum --check asset.checksum
    ```
  </Tab>
</Tabs>

Proceed only if the matching archive reports `OK`. Then:

```bash theme={null}
tar -xzf "$ARCHIVE"
bash ./install-release.sh "$HOME/.local/bin"
export PATH="$HOME/.local/bin:$PATH"
synth version
```

The version should be `synth 0.0.1-alpha.62`. The bundle's installer places the binary, helpers and licenses together. It does not require sudo. Add the PATH line to your shell configuration if it is not already there.

## Existing installations

Check `command -v synth` if an older executable still wins on PATH. Do not copy a new binary over a package-manager installation without its associated helpers.

The older hosted `/install.sh` bootstrap currently selects alpha.51. Use the pinned bundle above for the commands in this reference; do not run that older bootstrap over a newer installation.

Continue with [sign-in](/getting-started/authentication), then [run the complete example](/tutorials/first-review). If you already have a task and agent profile, use the [existing-input quickstart](/getting-started/quickstart#use-existing-inputs).
